Questions?

What is it?

Junior Academy sessions are led by Washington Rush coach Dan Somoza. Space is limited to ensure a strong coach-to-player ratio and personalized instruction.

All players receive a Junior Academy shirt and hat at no cost upon joining the program.

Staffing

Our Junior Academy is designed to maximize player development in a fun, positive environment. Players learn the fundamentals of baseball through game-like situations, skill-building activities, and engaging instruction.

Weekly training sessions follow an age-appropriate, youth-focused curriculum built on a “play–practice–play” model. Sessions prioritize fun, engagement, and confidence-building while developing a love for the game.

Players will learn key baseball fundamentals—including throwing, fielding, hitting, and base running—through games, small-sided activities, and positive coaching. We also emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship, and enjoying the process of getting better.

How are teams picked?

There are no tryouts. All players are placed on a Junior Academy team based on age and skill level. Initial practice teams are formed before the first session, with adjustments made if needed after evaluations.

Who coaches the teams?

All teams are coached by the Rush Coaching Staff, led by head trainer Dan Somoza.

Is space limited?

Yes. To maintain a quality coach-to-player ratio, space is limited and sessions fill quickly. If a session is full, please join the waitlist and we will contact you if a spot becomes available.

What should my player wear?

Players will receive a Junior Academy shirt and hat to wear during training and scrimmages. Players should provide their own equipment, including a bat, batting helmet, glove, and cleats.

What happens after I register?

You will receive a confirmation email upon registration. A detailed program email will be sent the week prior to the start date.

Does Junior Academy play in the rain?

Yes. Please dress your player appropriately for the weather. Sweatshirts or jackets can be worn over the Junior Academy shirt as needed.
